Troubleshooting

  • Check your PC-Hardware:

Processor: INTEL Core i5 or higher
RAM: 8 GByte or more
Hard Drive: 300 GByte free disk space or more
Encoding Device:VITEC Video Capture board from CDLAB.

  • Check your operating system:

Windows 7 PRO, SP1 (32/64 bit), latest updates installed
Windows 8/8.1 PRO (64 bit), latest updates installed
Windows 10 PRO (64 bit), latest updates installed

  • Activate the account Administrator (Windows 7 , Windows 8/8.1 and Windows 10)

  • Download the latest versions of the installation files below:

  • Log in as Administrator (System-Administrator) and run the installation files.

  • Plug your dongle into a free USB-port and run WinCanVX. Select the command Home > Program Information and check your license:

...

  • Make sure the current PC user has got write privileges on the directory:

C:\Program Filesx86\CDLab

  • Check the functionality of the VITEC-board running the livewire test application:

C:\Program Files(x86)\CDLab\Drivers\TestApp\Vitec\Vitec Test App.exe

Recommended settings: Input=Composite 3; Standard=PAL; VideoPreview Mode=DirectDraw

  • Check all the cable connections. The devices must be linked together exactly as shown in the sketch below:

  • Make sure the power supply is stable!

  • Check the communication between the text generator from iPEK (DE03SW, DE08CO/CVO or DCX/Vision Control) and the computer within the OSD-Settings dialogue:

Select device type and COM-port and hit the button Test:
If this lamp is flashing up in green the communication is OK. Check all cable connections if it's flickering!
If the lamp is flashing up in red the communication failed due to hardware problems (device, COM-cable, COM-port…)

  • First check if the crawler has got a built-in inclination sensor. Press Shift-Ctrl-1 to turn on the display of the inclination percentage value. Lift the crawler on one side to see if the sensor works correctly.

  • Run the file C:\Program Files (x86)\CDLab\Assemblies\MultiUSBConfig.exe as Administrator:

  • The MultiUSB configuration panel opens and allows you to check the device mode (1), the COM-port (2) the input channel for inclination (3) as well as the distance unit (4):

  1. According to the device, that has been connected the user has to select the appropriate mode:

  • Distance and inclination from MultiUSB: for the iPEK-devices DE03 and DE08

  • Distance from MultiUSB, inclination from OSD: for the iPEK-devices DE03 and DE08

  • OSD only (without MultiUSB): for the iPEK-devices DCX and VC200 (VisionControl)

  1. In case the device communication works via a RS232 connection, select the appropriate COM-port.

  2. Verify the signal type for inclination measurement: AD = analogical; CAN = digital

  3. Verify the unit for distance measurement: [feet] for US; [meter] for any other country

  • In case the device communication works via a MultiUSB connection, run the application C:\Program Files\WinCan v8\WinCan\MultiUSBDiag.exe (Version from 2010 or higher!) to test its functionality:

One of the analogue channels (e.g. Analog 1(smile) is showing the current inclination value. Right after the installation (i. e. prior to the inclination calibration within the DigiSewer scanning application) the value shown can rise up to 33000. It's leaping back to 0 again after calibration if the crawler is put on a horizontal ground. The other analogue channels may also flicker.Display for the current distance. When driving with the crawler this value must change too.
The distance being displayed is only correct if the correct encoder wheel circumference and the correct number of encoder impulses are set.Hit this button and confirm with the OK button in the dialogue that follows. The input channels (highlighted in red and blue) then will display the values they are getting from the control unit.

  • If the distance value isn't changing or if they aren't any data available after the scanning process you must unplug and plug in again the MultiUSB unit to enforce a reliable communication between the devices!


  • Open the file C:\Program Files\WinCan v8\WinCan\Ini\WinCanScanExplorer.ini and check the values for the encoder WHEELDIAMETER as well as for the number of impulses per revolution (IMPPERREV):

  • Also check the number of the inclination channel (USB_INCL_CHANNEL) that must correspond to the Analog channel in the MultiUSB Diag currently displaying the inclination values:

  • Check the behaviour of the distance value being displayed in the MultiUSB Diag. If it changes spontaneously even when you do NOT pull the cable the power supply is unstable.

  • If the expected values for the parameters Weglänge A and Analog 1 (for inclination) are displayed correctly when moving forward or tilting the crawler everything is OK.

  • If the inclination is not displayed correctly check the following entries in the file C:\Windows\system32\MultiUSB.ini:

If the Section [Serial] is missing or empty the inclination data are directly transmitted via the MultiUSB unit.

  • Check the path of the WinCan project folder. It should always be set to a local hard drive. Do NOT use external hard drives (e.g. USB drives) for data recording.

  • Check the name of the WinCan project. Do NOT use "odd" characters like ä,ö,ü,ê,â,ñ,õ,ç etc. when typing the project name as DigiSewer does NOT support these characters.


In case of reproducible crashes or persisting problems try to scan a few meters/feet and send the LOG-file to support@wincan.com:

Always add a screenshot of all the error messages that might pop up.
