17_Import of Drone Data_EN

Introduction

This documentation describes how a TV operator can record and manage data with the drone system ELIOS 2/3 and the software Inspector 5.0 from the company FLYABILITY and finally import the whole data package into WinCan VX.

Requirements

The import of drone data requires a WinCan VX Expert license but the additional license slot is not activated per default, so please contact us at sales@wincan.com giving the keyword drone import. The module will then be activated free of charge.

All elements which are necessary for recording, managing and importing data from the ELIOS 2/3 drone systems are listed below:

Version 14.2 or higher

Create project with the software Inspector

Download and install the latest premium version of the software Inspector 5.0 (Inspector-Software). The premium version is required to process and generate the flight path (trajectory) as well as the point cloud recorded during the flight. The premium version is free of charge for the first 30 days.

To be able to import later on the drone data into WinCan VX, the following 4 POI's have to be added:

Tag/POI (point of interest)

Description

Tag/POI (point of interest)

Description

start_manhole

Level of the manhole cover

stop_manhole

Level of the manhole bottom / pipe drop

start_inspection

Pipe start

stop_inspection

Pipe end

start_manhole, stop_manhole, start_inspection and stop_inspection must be added to the POI's as tags (therefore do not use the fields "Name" or "Comment").

Mind that these tags have been written in lower case.

Step 1: start_manhole:

Step 2: start_inspection

Step 3: stop_inspection

This is how the project looks like with the correct POI's including tags/markers in the Inspector software:

In addition to the POI's, the following information is also imported into WinCan VX:

  • The name entered for start_inspection will later be imported into WinCan VX as upstream manhole. If nothing is entered, WinCan VX will name the upper manhole like the flight number with the suffix "_1".

  • The name entered for stop_inspection will later be imported into WinCan VX as downstream manhole. If nothing is entered, WinCan VX will name the lower manhole like the flight number with the suffix "_2".

  • The flight name is imported as the section name

  • The "Comment" field is imported into WinCan VX as an observation remark

The Inspector software finally calculates the trajectory of the flights and returns it as a point cloud:

Import drone data package into WinCan VX

Create a new project in WinCan VX based on the desired damage standard hitting the button Projects >New Project:

Select the damage standard for your country (PACP, WRC, WSA, NZPIM etc.) and click on the double arrow icon to continue:

After project creation click on Data Exchange > Drone Import:

Select the desired main directory and start the import process. Depending on the amount of data, this may take a few minutes:

Versions 1.2024.15.2 and higher will have an import failure message popped up in case of missing start and stop tags. So re-open the data package in the Flyability inspector software and set the start and stop tags accordingly.

After the import, the sections including videos are displayed in WinCan VX:

If you create a new observation, the distance will automatically be taken from the current position in the video.
