Media Renaming in Wincan VX

This article describes how the file names for video clips and photos can be customized for the current as well as for future WinCanVX projects using a predefined field combination.

File renaming for video clips (e.g. AssetID_Date_Time.mp4)

  • Go to Home>Settings>Media Renaming

  • If you need a media naming convention specified by a standard then select a predefined renaming pattern from the dropdown (e.g. Australia, Gold Coast City Council; Switzerland, CH Interlis (Number); UK, WRC, ThamesWater etc.)-> if the result doesn’t satisfy the end customer, continue with the next steps.

  • Select the renaming pattern Custom instead:

  • Hit the gear wheel icon to the right of text box linked to Section video:

  1. Browse for each field needed to build up the filename from the list box on the right.:
    e.g. OBJ_Key (for AssetID)_INS_StartDate (for Date)_INS_StartTime (for Time)

  2. Double click on the selected field. This is going to copy the desired field to the text box at the left.

  3. Grab the field FreeText and enter the character “_” in the text entry box at the bottom.

  4. Use the arrow buttons in case you need to change the field order.

  5. Check the renaming pattern in the preview field.

  • If you are happy with the fields added then make sure to add the field Sequence at the end of the name to ensure the file names will be unique:

  • Confirm these settings by clicking on the green tick button. The created pattern will show as below:

  • You can then use the same process for Section Pictures, and if required Lateral and Nodes.

  • To make sure that this custom naming convention is applied to all newly created files make sure to tick the option in the main media renaming section of settings, only do this if you want this to apply to ALL newly created media files:

  • To update all your existing project media files with the new naming conventions you will need to run the following tool on the project while it is open:

Tools>Misc.Tools>Project media file Renaming>SectionAsset

  • Open the project subfolder \Video\Sec and check the new file names.

 

Always mind that the renamed files must get a unique name! Please use the simulation first, so you are able to check the result before.
