We are phasing out the physical dongles. You have been issued a software licence key. This key will register your desktop WinCan VX with our licensing servers. Internet access is recommended to complete the registration.

Things to know

Once registered periodic re-authentication to validate the licence will be required. Every 30 days (minimum) WinCan must be started with the PC connected to the internet. The process is fully automated with nothing more for the user to do. You will receive a gentle reminder if your licence is running offline and you approach the date this check in is needed. If you pass the 30 day check in period WinCan will start in viewer mode until internet access is re-established.

Once you are up and running with this software key you will no longer need the physical dongle. Our Head Office would like the old dongle back.

If a license expires or is already expired our Head Office can activate a license again. You don’t need to activate the license again.

A software license belongs to a WinCan VX client. You can activate a license only on one client.

You can transfer software licenses from one system to another system. Transfer Software License

Introduction

The software license sytem or WinCan license system is aimed to replace the current dongle licenses issued by Sentinel. Inside WinCan VX, you can still select between three license modes (i.e. Sentinel, WinCan or Distributed License).

Online activation with license code

After successful installation of WinCan VX (version 1.2019.7.6 or higher), the user has to activate either a local (license system WinCan) or a server license (license system Distributed license). Both cases require a stable internet connection.

Local License

The following steps describe the licensing process on single-user computers in TV vehicles or offices. Licensing is actually done via an individual license code sent by e-mail (software licensing).

• Install WinCan VX and launch the software.

• Activate the license system WinCan via the command Home > Manage licences > Select license system:

• Restart WinCanVX, run the command Home > Manage licenses > Update license, and copy your personal activation code into the corresponding text field:

• Type a unique name into the field user name.

• The validity of the license is confirmed on the right part of the main interface and all functionalities/modules you purchased are activated from now on your computer.

Server License

If you prefer installing WinCanVX on several CLIENT computers within a local network, the installation of a network license service makes more sense. SERVER and CLIENT computers (PCs oder Notebooks) should therefore be a part of the same subnet. Proceed as described below in order to make full use of this license system:

• Ask your domain administrator to establish an internal network license service. The instructions needed can be obtained via the link.

• Install WinCanVX on all CLIENT computers within the local network.

• Activate the license system Distributed License via the command Home > Manage license > Select license system:

• Restart WinCanVX, run the command Home > Manage licenses > Update license, and type the IP address of the license server into the corresponding text field:

• Type a unique name into the field user name.

A message confirms the validity of the license and activates the WinCan VX modules you will be able to use at least on 2 CLIENT computers within the local network. A license extension to further CLIENT computers can be ordered at any time.

License validation

License validation is always done in the background whenever the computer is connected to the internet. Mind that you will have to connect a computer in the TV truck after at least 30 days and then restart WinCanVX to make sure the license is validated.

The message License successfully updated is popping up for a few seconds above the system tray (date/time display). So WinCanVX is ready for use for another month without a daily license check.

License update

If you want to upgrade the software with additional features or modules, you must first order them via e mail to sales@wincan.com. The WinCan administration then activates the desired features directly via Internet.

Next you will have to check your internet connection and restart WinCanVX: the message License successfully updated is popping up again for a few seconds above the system tray (date/time) display).

Finally hit the tab command General > Program information and check, whether the new features appear in the list on the right part of the main interface.

Re-activation of the same license on another computer

If you want to detach your license from the current work station (computer 1) in order to be able to use it on another computer, make sure you have an internet connection and run the command Home > Manage License > License settings. Next hit the button Deactivate (2) in the dialogue box that follows:

• You may keep the e-mail text field empty and confirm both message boxes below (3 and 4):

• A new activation code is generated by the software and shown in the license settings dialogue.

• Copy (Ctrl + C) the code (5) into a blank TXT file (Ctrl + V) and close the dialogue box:

• Copy the TXT file to a removable drive and and go to computer 2.

• Plug the removable drive to computer 2, open the TXT file, highlight the activation code and copy it to the clipboard (Ctrl +C).

• Run the command Home > Manage License > License settings and paste (Ctrl + V) the activation code into the text field as shown in the dialogue below:

Finally confirm the re-activation of your license.

Offline activation with license file

In case you work on a computer in a TV truck, which may not always be connected to the internet, you should apply the offline activation method. First a C2V file has to be generated and then sent to the WinCan administration (sales@wincan.com). This so called fingerprint file will be used by the license registration system to create and link the new license to this machine. Proceed as follows to generate the C2V file in WinCan VX:

The license file (LIC file) sent via e-mail must first be copied to your local hard drive. To activate it, just run the command Home > Manage License > Install license from file, browse for the corresponding folder path within the Windows dialogue box and select the file.

Troubleshooting: getting the license number

If the the license mode has switched to INVALID when launching WinCanVX despite a stable internet connection, please proceed as follows to reset the mode of your license to VALID:

• Close WinCanVX

• Go to START > WinCanVX > WinCan System Info:

• Send the license number which is written on the last line of the panel below (1) to WinCan LTD (sales@wincan.com)

• You will get a new activation code from WinCan LTD within a few minutes.

• Restart WinCanVX, run the command Home > Manage licenses > Update license, and copy the new activation code into the corresponding text field:

• The validity of the license is confirmed on the right part of the main interface and all functionalities/modules you purchased are re-activated on your computer.

Please also make a screenshot of the dialogue box shown above. In case you have to re-install WinCan on a new computer or a new hard disk, you can quickly find out the number of your valid license and send it to WinCan LTD.
