Preamble

This document supports the software application training provided by WinCan Europe Ltd to customers working on DDMS (Drainage Data Management System) projects for the tier one contractors operating the Highways England operating areas and was formally commonly known as HADDMS.

The information provided here is not intended as an alternative to the services offered, but as a supporting aide-memoir to candidates who have successfully completed the training.

This document is subject to change at any time in line with new software developments and changes in process, and users should always strive to ensure that they have the most recent published version and also the most recent published version of the WinCan VX application, which can be downloaded from www.wincan.com

This document covers using WinCan VX to round-trip data from HADDMS, through site inspections and back into HADDMS, and does not cover the data consolidation tools included in WinCan Map VX as a standalone software application.

Warning:

WinCan VX can be used to round-trip data out of and back into the HADDMS system as described in these pages, and it can also be used to create new data sets from scratch.

It should be always borne in mind that creating new data from scratch should only ever happen where there is no available data on the HADDMS database for the area of work.

But, it is not possible to do a ‘bit of both’.  It is not possible to start a project from a blank piece of paper from scratch and then subsequently decide to round-trip it after say site inspections have been completed.

Chapters

Documentation

The published documentation for HADDMS work is a living library with regular updates from the authors, so rather than add them here as downloads, you should go to the Standards for Highways website and search for relevant documents by clicking here and also there are some very useful documents on the Download page of the HADDMS website here.

Some key documents that you should be aware of are:

  • CD 535 - Drainage asset data and risk management (formerly HD43 / 03).

  • CS 551 - Drainage surveys (formerly SD15 / 03).

  • ADMM Asset Data Management Manual, available here.

  • HADDMS Drainage Data Formats Issue 2 September 2020 (HADDMS Download area).

Support

WinCan VX Support

For all WinCan VX related support requests please create a Service Desk request with WinCan Europe by clicking here. When making these requests, please be sure to always:

  • In the ‘Summary’ box, just add a ticket title, not a detailed description of the problem. The title of the box is a little misleading, but it is out of our control. You can all the details for the ticket into the ‘Description’ box further down.

  • Zip up and attach the entire DB folder from your current project to the ticket. Note - this is not the entire project folder, this will be too big with all the video and pictures etc. We only want the whole DB folder, not just the files or file inside.

  • Add screenshots to help us understand the issue that you are having - mark them up with red lines, boxes and arrows to say to us ‘look here’ when describing the issue that you are having.

  • Add the version number of WinCan VX that you are using. It is written across the very centre of the VX window, right at the top.

  • Add numbered ‘Steps to Reproduce' to the ticket description so that we can reproduce your problem exactly as you see it.

  • Make a new ticket each time you have a new issue. Please do not let us deal with and close a ticket, and then add a new comment along the lines of ‘Oh, and I forgot, please can you help with this as well’. Please, just create a new ticket. One ticket, one issue.

With all this, we will be in a much better place to help resolve your issue quickly and efficiently.
