Training for operators: guidelines
The following training guide is providing a check list for WinCanVX trainers to make sure the most important subjects regarding the usage of WinCanVX by a TV operator are shown in detail and that the user is able to understand what he really needs in order to inspect pipe lines efficiently with the software WinCanVX.
Concept of WinCan VX
New interface allowing the user to freely move and place the working panels on the screen or hide an close them whenever needed.
Predefined templates, damage catalogues and reports that are fully compatible to the official standards of pipe damage descriptions used in different countries all over the world.
Support of a wide range of measurement technologies provided by different camera manufacturerers.
License system
Launch the software and make sure the license system is set to WinCan
Enter the activation code sent by CDLab or your local reseller
Check the validity of the license, the license slots and the expiration date
WinCanVX projects
Create a new project with the project wizard
Select templates and catalogues referring to a country specific standard
Set 1st order for the current project and show the project folder structure
Add a series of photos to the project that provide a general overview to the construction site or a digitized map/plot
WinCanVX interface
Grab panels on the title bar and move them randomly
Mix-up an existing panel layout and restore it

Import/assign an existing video clip to the current project
Take photos from an existing video clip
Delete photos and video clips
Multiple inspections
Create a 1st inspection linked to a given section     Â
Create a 2nd inspection linked to the same section
Browse between both inspections (e.g. …before and after rehabilitation)
Create a 1st inspection until the camera crawler bumps on an obstacle and finish with the text "…abandoned…"
Create a 2nd inspection from the opposite section end until the camera crawler bumps on the same obstacle and finish with the text "…abandoned…"
Create a 3rd inspection and combine (merge) both inspection parts to one single inspection
DEMO: Merging abandoned inspections of a section
OSD (On Screen Display) : prerequisites
Check the cable connections (TV-IN-/TV-OUT, RS232 cable, USB-Serial Converter)
Launch the OSD-Setup, select device and COM-Port and check the communication
NOTE: in case of an IBAK-equipment LiveVideo and OSD is controled by the software IBAK-SoftControl. For further questions regarding this feature the operator must contact IBAK directly.
Checking text display settings
Define the fields to appear in the project bar and the section dataÂ
Set the position (line) the project bar / section data will be displayed at
Set the position (line) the current observation will be displayed at
Set the positions (X, Y) of important OSD objects (distance, inclination, date etc.) to be displayed at
Customizing OSD panels
Show, move or delete function buttons provided by the OSD deviceÂ
Function Dist a/m (get distance from OSD or type it manually)
Function Preset distance
Function D1 – Dsat (switch between main- and SAT distance)
Functions to switch between different text background- and text colours
Functions for inclination measurement (forward/backward)
Saving the layout of the function buttons in the OSD panel Â
Test survey from the beginning to the end
TASK: the operator must make sure he is able to use the functionalities as described below. This test must be done in the TV vehicle directly using the available camera equipment.
Boot the computer and launch WinCan VXÂ
Create a new project
Enter section- and inspection data
Enter address data for clients, managers and contractorsÂ
Assign the logo to the contractor's addressÂ
Assign address data to the current project
Switch on the camera and check the LiveVideo signal
Check the settings of the video recording format (MPEG 1, 2 or 4)
Activate the option for automatic pause during recording
Activate the function Dist a/m to get the distance from the OSD
Set the distance to 0
Start video recordingÂ
Get the section data displayed for 15 sec
Get the project bar displayed
Start driving the camera
Enter observations and take pictures
Stop video recording
Start inclination measurement (backward)
Stop inclination measurement and check the inclination curve
Print the inspection report with pictures and save it as a PDF file
Distribute the project to a DVD or a removable diskÂ
Project header information (Meta data)
Entering address data (client, site/manager, contractor)
Assigning addresses to the current project
Setting the default contractor for future projects
Assigning the company logo to the contractors address
Creating jobs and entering resource dataÂ
Printing reports
Select a group of sections (i.e. mulitiple selection) prior to printing
Select different report types and set the corresponding printing options
Print all or filtered sections
Check the inspection report for sections and laterals in the print preview
Check the inspection report for manholes in the print preview
Save inspection protocols as a PDF fileÂ
Distributing project
Select a group of sections (i.e. multiple selection) prior to distribution
Run the MediaDistribution using the option Normal (i.e. with WinCanVX as a VIEWER version)
Run the MediaDistribution using the option Light (i.e. with the application LightViewer)
