Training for office staff: guidelines
The following training guide is providing a check list for WinCanVX trainers to make sure the most important subjects regarding the usage of WinCanVX in an office environment are shown in detail and that the users are able to understand what they really need in order to manage, print and export project data which have been created in WinCanVX in a TV truck.
Concept of WinCan VX
New interface allowing the user to freely move and place the working panels on the screen or hide an close them whenever needed.
Predefined templates, damage catalogues and reports that are fully compatible to the official standards of pipe damage descriptions used in different countries all over the world.
Support of a wide range of measurement technologies provided by different camera manufacturerers.
License system
Launch the software and make sure the license system is set to WinCan
Enter the activation code sent by CDLab or your local reseller
Check the validity of the license, the license slots and the expiration date
WinCanVX projects
Create a new project with the project wizard
Select templates and catalogues referring to a country specific standard
Set 1st order for the current project and show the project folder structure
Add a series of photos to the project that provide a general overview to the construction site or a digitized map/plot
WinCanVX interface
Grab panels on the title bar and move them randomly
Mix-up an existing panel layout and restore it
Move panels with the positioning assistant
Show,minimize, hide and close panels
Save current panel layout as a separate view
Data entry for main sections
Enter / delete section and inspection data
Enter / delete observations; working with damage catalogues
Enter / delete continuous damages
Enter / modify damage grades
Data entry for lateral sections
Create a new lateral and link it the current main section
Link an existing lateral to the corresponding main section
Enter / delete observations for lateral sections
Switch between main and lateral sections
Data entry for manholes
Entering manhole header data, inspections, observations
Entering in- and outlets linked to the current manhole
Entering manhole parts (cover, taper, cone, chamber, bench, channel)
Display the manhole in 3D view
LiveVideo; video clips, photos
Import/assign an existing video clip to the current project
Take photos from an existing video clip
Delete photos and video clips
Multiple inspections
Create a 1st inspection linked to a given section     Â
Create a 2nd inspection linked to the same section
Browse between both inspections (e.g. …before and after rehabilitation)
Create a 1st inspection until the camera crawler bumps on an obstacle and finish with the text "…abandoned…"
Create a 2nd inspection from the opposite section end until the camera crawler bumps on the same obstacle and finish with the text "…abandoned…"
Create a 3rd inspection and combine (merge) both inspection parts to one single inspection
DEMO: Merging abandoned inspections of a section
Project header information (Meta data)
Entering address data (client, site/manager, contractor)
Assigning addresses to the current project
Setting the default contractor for future projects
Assigning the company logo to the contractors address
Creating jobs and entering resource dataÂ
Printing reports
Select a group of sections (i.e. mulitiple selection) prior to printing
Select different report types and set the corresponding printing options
Print all or filtered sections
Check the inspection report for sections in the print preview
Check the inspection report for manholes in the print preview
Save inspection protocols as a PDF fileÂ
Distributing project
Select a group of sections (i.e. multiple selection) prior to distribution
Run the MediaDistribution using the option Normal (i.e. with WinCanVX as a VIEWER version)
Run the MediaDistribution using the option Light (i.e. with the application LightViewer)
Write data on a local hard drive or on any removable drive
Upload current project to WinCanWeb
Project structure; important project subfolders:
DB: project databases; meaning of [project].db3 and [project_Meta].db3
Misc\Docu: PDF reports or customized exports (i.e. Excel files)
Misc\Exchange: files created by official exports used in different countries (i.e. EN13508 export, PACP export etc.)
Picture: pipe and manhole pictures (JPEG files)
Video: pipe and manhole clips (MPEG files)
Trash: container for all kind of data/media deleted from the current project
Project management
Add projects to the project manager list
Delete projects from the project manager list (clean-up project list)
Rename projects
Restore deleted objects (sections, laterals, manholes, inspections)
Data management tools
Auto filter based on a list of predefined fields: one field and one criterion is supported
Extended filter supporting an unlimited number of fields and field criteria
Enter filter critera using specific operators (AND; OR; * ?= < >)
Save standard filter queries for further use
Export filtered data into a new project
Get filtered data directly distributed on a local or removable drive
Search and replace field entries using the Search/Replace functionality
Sorting records manually in ascending or descending order via drag&drop
Sorting records automatically in ascending or descending order applying one or several criteria
Merging data from different projects into a new empty project
Report Generator
Pick section, inspection and observation fields and build-up a query
Set sorting criteria for the current query
Get a preview of the query
Export the query result as a PDF document or as an EXCEL sheet
Save standard query for further use
WinCan-WEB
Concept of WinCan-WEB: cloud-based project management service
Create and manage personal WEB-account
Upload current project from local drive to WinCan-WEB (web.wincan.com) using a specific account
Upload a group of previously selected or filtered sections of the current project from the local hard drive to WinCan-WEB (web.wincan.com).
Create a link to the current project and send it to the end customer (e.g. engineer office, local water authorities).
Open project via WEB-link
Navigate through the uploaded WEB-project
Download the WEB-project to the local hard drive (project as ZIP-folder or as a LightViewer-package)
Â
NOTE: the following modules/features are optional and are only shown on demand
WinCan Draw
File formats supported by WinCan Draw (e.g. PDF, JPEG, PNG…) Â
Draw a project or a section sketch based on a background file (satellite picture, plot…) Â
Complete a section sketch using the drawing tools (line, ellipse, rectangle etc.)
Complete a section sketch with text fields
Use default symbols (e.g. section flow)
Create additional symbols/pictograms (e.g. manhole cover, arrows etc.)Â
Remove symbols from the symbol bar
Save section drawing as well as symbols
Â
NOTE: this module is an alternative to the recording of MPEG video clips
Scanning pipes with the scanner application (Panoramo, DigiSewer, RPP)
Launch WinCan VX and check the following section fields:
OBJ_Key, INS_InspectionDir, OBJ_Size1Define the path for saving the raw data (only for IBAK-Panoramo)
Switch on the scanner camera and open the scanner application Â
Configure the scanner camera (Panoramo, DigiSewer, RPP)Â
Start the scan process
Check the folder structure in the project subfolder ScanExplorer
Copy the scan data as a BACKUP on an external hard drive
Delete the scan data from the project subfolder
Reimport the scan data (header.txt) from the external hard drive  Â
Analyzing the scan results with the ScanExplorer
Launch the ScanExplorer application
Display the whole group of ScanExplorer panels
Define type and size of the pictures to be taken by the ScanExplorer
Automatic detection of pipe structures (joints, taps, in-/ outlets…)
Highlight damages with graphical instruments (lines, polylines, dots…)
Navigate within the pipe scan AND enter damages in the catalogue
Enter damages in the catalogue AND switch to the pipe scan
Â
Scanning and analyzing pipe deformations based on a ring laser video clip
Prerequisites for recording pipe deformation videosÂ
Calibration of the diameter from video sequence showing the calibration bar
Parameters used to scan the deformation of a pipe from a video clip
Set start and end time within the video sequence
Run a deformation scan
View deformation reports (ovality, diameter, capacity)
Display result of the deformation scan with the ScanExplorer or in 3D mode Â
