WinCan VX Support
For all WinCan VX related support requests please create a Service Desk request with WinCan by clicking here. When making these requests, please be sure to always:
In the ‘Summary’ box, just add a ticket title, not a detailed description of the problem. The title of the box is a little misleading, but it is out of our control. You can all the details for the ticket into the ‘Description’ box further down.
Zip up and attach the entire DB folder from your current project to the ticket. Note - this is not the entire project folder, this will be too big with all the video and pictures etc. We only want the whole DB folder, not just the files or file inside.
Add screenshots to help us understand the issue that you are having - mark them up with red lines, boxes and arrows to say to us ‘look here’ when describing the issue that you are having.
Add the version number of WinCan VX that you are using. It is written across the very centre of the VX window, right at the top.
Add numbered ‘Steps to Reproduce' to the ticket description so that we can reproduce your problem exactly as you see it.
Make a new ticket each time you have a new issue. Please do not let us deal with and close a ticket, and then add a new comment along the lines of ‘Oh, and I forgot, please can you help with this as well’. Please, just create a new ticket. One ticket, one issue.

Introduction
WinCan VX includes tools to make 3D measurements of pipes and convert them into object shapes in the GIS space. This is very useful to clients requiring a detailed view of where their pipes are located and what shape they are, particularly for those making upstream TV inspections of laterals from section main pipes.
These tools can be used in any standard provided the correct VX licensing is installed on the customer’s PC.
Navigating and understanding 3D geometry is complex and requires an excellent knowledge of the 3D geo-space. While we try to make this as simple as possible, we cannot get away from this requirement to know how to use WinCan VX and WinCan Map at the very highest levels.
Please discuss with your local WinCan regional office where training is required.

Types of 3D Measurement
3D measurements can be made in WinCan VX or with or without TV inspections. There is no requirement to have one of these with the other and there is no link between the directions of TV inspections and 3D measurements.
The result of this is that we can have any of the following scenarios with a section or a lateral in WinCan VX when we are making a 3D shape:
Inspection Direction | Setup Node | Measurement Direction |
---|---|---|
None, no TV inspection | Upper | Forwards |
None, no TV inspection | Upper | Backwards |
None, no TV inspection | Lower | Forwards |
None, no TV inspection | Lower | Backwards |
Downstream, with TV inspection | Upper | Forwards |
Downstream, with TV inspection | Upper | Backwards |
Upstream, with TV inspection | Lower | Forwards |
Upstream, with TV inspection | Lower | Backwards |
...
Licensing
To make 3D measurements, the user must have a valid WinCan VX Expert license and also the 3D Measurement license slot, included by default in the most recent versions of the VX Expert package.
