Deformation Scan with iPEK Spirallo Laser
Version: 1.0
Date: 18/02/2025
The WinCan license must have slot 1415 “Spirallo” enabled (available in feature package “Laser Scan” 2230), only then is it possible to process the recorded video in the LaserScan application.
Hardware and drivers:
Connecting VC500 OSD cable
In order to connect VC500 to a computer to use the device with e.g., WinCan VX software, use a dedicated USB-A ↔︎ USB-A cable:
Note that as of 2024-01-22 we have only one such cable that is working (marked with “TEN DZIAŁA” sticker on the cable, which means “this works”).
To make VC500 ↔︎ PC connection, it is necessary to have an appropriate driver for the cable installed on the PC (according to your Windows version):
Windows 32-bit:
Windows 64-bit:
Connecting HDMI Grabber
In order to use device screen live stream you can use the VITEC device. Plug in the HDMI cable into VC500 and “In” socket on the VITEC.
(VC500): To turn the HDMI Live on, turn on the device and head to Menu → Slide Right → Advanced Settings → HDMI Mirroring option, and choose “Live”.
Software installation:
Install newest WinCan VX (minimum version 17.1)
Live Video configuration:
Set up video as for standard operation with VC500.
OSD configuration:
Select iPEK - DCX/VisionControl.
Select the appropriate COM port.
Test the connection.
If everything is OK, the field will light up green.
Save the settings.
Recording new video with VC500 + VX:
In the VC500 device, you must use the Spirallo macro.
To use this macro, any project must be active, otherwise the button will be grayed out.
We measure from the end of the pipe to its beginning. After reaching the end of the pipe and starting the macro, the Spirallo crawler will withdraw on its own.
Click “Photo & Measurement“ and click “Spirallo”.
Click “Start Measurement“ - The OSD should disappear, the rover's lights should turn off, and the camera with lasers should move into position toward the pipe wall.
To start the measurement, turn on video recording in the VX and at the same time press on the VC500 click “Start Measurement“.
When the crawler reaches the beginning of the pipe, stop recording in the VX and click "Start Measurement" on the VC500.
Video Processing in LaserScan:
Open the Sections tab in VX and click on the dot icon in the LaserScan column within the observation containing the Spirallo video file.
The laser scan should automatically detect the Spirallo index and should not prompt for the laser type.
If necessary, set the new start and end time. The video used for scan processing should not contain OSD objects, and the inside of the pipe should remain dark throughout the entire video.
Press "Start Scan" button. Scan processing starts, and its progress can be seen on the progress bar.
If the proper option was set before processing scan, the ovality report should open automatically after the scan
After clicking on the “3D” button, 3d view opens and is operable. You can switch between different view types or pan and zoom the pipe using the mouse scroll button.
After clicking the Excel button, the WinCan LaserScan Excel report opens with its valid data.
