An Overview of DDMS Data Vs WRc Data
As described previously, there are several significant differences between the data entry requirements for WRc inspections using the MSCC standard and HADDMS inspections. These differences have always existed in the HADDMS documentation, but until HADDMS became available in WinCan VX, they were largely disregarded by previous WinCan application versions.
These differences include:
Data collection for all drainage assets in one application, no longer just pipes. So, WinCan VX can be used to add attribute data for and assess the condition of all point assets (manholes etc), continuous items (pipes below ground and linear drainage items above ground), and region items (items that have an enclosed shape, like ponds etc).
Significant differences in the ‘header’ information data fields in line with the HADDMS data format.
A focus on good use of laterals and sections to ensure connectivity of the system when GIS data is imported, and coordinates are updated.
Significant differences in observation codes for pipes with more than 45 codes that are not included in the MSCC, and 10 codes that are in the MSCC and not in the HADDMS standard.
Many observation codes for other asset types that are not pipes.
A focus on observation scores rather than grades. In HADDMS data, observations do not have grades like they do in WRc data. They have scores, but inspections do have grades. This becomes clear when you study the content of the .dbf files that are mentioned in the section Shapefiles .
